Unless you are paying cash, obtaining a mortgage is a critical step in buying a home. I am not a loan officer, and I am not qualified to answer any specific questions about mortgage loans. However, I do encourage you to shop around for a loan. Before you commit to anything, you must feel that you can trust the loan officer that you are dealing with.
As you know, a major factor in obtaining a mortgage is your FICO Score. What determines your FICO Score can be confusing. For some clarification, please view a document provided by Trulia.com on Improving Your FICO Score.
To get started, below are two mortgage companies.
The first, Paul Volpe of Nova Home Loans, I can personally recommend. I have used him personally and have referred several of my clients. This is a good place to start.
You might also try Fairfield Independent Mortgage Company. I have not had any personal experience with them, but they come highly recommended by many of my colleagues.
There are, of course, many other mortgage companies to choose from. I you have used one that you would like to recommend, please let me know.
