Nestled in the rolling valley just northwest of the Catalina Mountain Range and six miles from the Tucson city limits, Oro Valley is a growing upscale community offering numerous opportunities for housing.  Choices range from apartment and vacation rentals, town homes and patio villas, to private gated communities with magnificent custom homes or lots for sale.  Rancho Vistoso is the largest of the planned developments, with single housing sub-divisions, private gated luxury communities, corporate parks, a brand new hospital, medical offices, small office parks, and shopping centers.  Another planned community is La Reserve, just below the mountains and nearby the Hilton El Conquistador Resort.  It offers high elevation homes, with magnificent views of the northwest valley as well as apartments, and a retirement care facility.  Many Oro Valley housing developments abut the public, semi-private and private golf courses and town parks.  Numerous retirement developments are care facilities are also found here.  Sun City Vistoso is the largest active adult community in Oro Valley and offers a variety of homes and many recreational services for its residents.

Oro Valley is known for its landscaped divided roads, an active Greater Arts Council, numerous outdoor artworks supported by developer fees, a new library with affiliation with the Tucson-Pima Public Library System, parks, recreation, hiking and biking paths, a public pool, and a brand new hospital (2005).  The public schools are in the Amphitheater School District and numerous alternate choices abound.
